Softube Fet Compressor
Softube took their incredible FET Compressor VST and optimized the interface for the ProChannel. Now you can add an additional FET Compressor with unique.
I know everyone loves the FET Compressor and at first I thought did too when I watched the demos and bought it about a year ago. But I've noticed I hardly ever use it, because whenever I try it I usually get better results with the McDSP Compressors, MClass, Reasons SSL (channel and master bus) compressors. Compressors can be used for different things.

The way I use them is for extra punch/accentuating the attack on drums or synths. Or I use compression to simply level out the volume on a channel. And the last one, as glue and a bit of thump on the master bus.
My music is pretty much always instrumental electronic music. Is it better suited for recorded instruments and vocals?
I feel like I should like FET since everyone else likes it and it's also pretty expensive. Is it that the FET compressor behaves differently and I just don't know how/when to use it or Is it simply not the compressor for me? Its not really suited to accentuate the attack of drums because its own attack is so immensely fast that it will catch rather than let through the attack of the drum, hence giving it 'splat' instead of 'punch'. This is also why this compressor is generally rather 'harsh' towards the material.
It quickly adds distortion, giving a 'bright' impression. Can be perfect for acoustic or electric guitar, vocals and all kinds of things.
For bus compression its not really suited imo, except maybe for parallel compression. Its also not really suited for 'inaudible' volume adaption because of the character it imparts, VCA compressors are more suited for that. If you say it doesn't work for stuff you do then thats probably true Maybe see it more like a subtle distortion device and see if it fits in your mixes in that respect?
1176 (FET) is a favorite on drums. Many folks, myself included, use the slowest attack and fastest release. This may/will 'color' the sound in most cases (the fast release being the culprit), but that's why folks love them for drums! You can also get a similar effect with the Main Mixer (SSL) channel compressor.
By using the default slow attack (don't press the Fast button), and making Release as fast as possible, you can add classic SSL 'snap' to any drum/percussion/plucky track. The FET is also a favorite on vocals using the 'Dr. Pepper' settings (from their slogan to drink Dr. Pepper at 10, 2, & 4 o'clock): Attack at 10:00, Release at 2:00, and Ratio at 4). I use the FET for my drum Bus a lot. But as mentioned before the parallel Mode is the key for it sounding crisp, a bit more dry then wet. Also reduce the input Volumen when compression kicks in to much and raise the attack time Quite a bit to Let the Transients through. The maximum attack time for the 1176 is still only 0.8 milliseconds, only letting through frequencies above 1,2kHz unaltered, everything below that gets the '1176 attack treatment'. So it never really lets drum transients through.

So it never really lets drum transients through. Not following you on the frequency related thing - if it's letting through the higher frequencies, isn't it letting through the transients as well? All I know is I like what it does to drum transients!
